The first round of the Pawle Cup will commence in the new year and needs to be completed before the end of February. This year the tournament can be tracked on the Resultszone site alongside the County Leagues and all matches will be entered into the ranking system. Fixtures for the semis and final rounds will be posted once the results of the first round ars available.
Tony Bowyer is organising the tournament and by way of keeping anyone interested in progress a copy of Tony’s recent e-mail to team captains is set out below:
PAWLE CUP & HINE PLATE 2011
Dear First Team Captains and those interested,
You have been entered into the county squash knock-out cup competition. This year we will also resurrect the Hine Plate for first round losers. I intend to coordinate both competitions via email only and will do my best to update this info to the new county website (tbc). Team captains will need to communicate via email with me but basically it is up to you to arrange your matches and submit results to me. This is easier for me as a volunteer with a full-time job. Please also respond to this email to confirm your commitment. Please keep to deadlines and please play the competition in the right spirit with adherence to the rules regarding elegibility and playing order. The Pawle Cup involves 5 players from each team (unless both captains agree on 4 players – see below), each having played at least twice during the season for a team from your club; naturally, all players need to be registered to be eligible.
- All Cornish (x7) affiliated clubs are entered into the first round.
- Teams are seeded with Truro and Falmouth at 1 and 2 respectively.
- First round losers will go into the Hine Plate.
- 5 players per team in strict merit playing order; if player availablity is an issue then only with both captains agreement can a 4 V 4 match take place – except for the final which must be ’5 man’. If 4 V 4 then usual league scoring system to decide winner.
- Playing order: ‘reverse’ so 5s play first ending with 1s. Changes to order can be made if both captains agree.
- Home advantage was decided by ‘names out of a hat’; home teams provide usual ‘hospitality’ including courts, balls, meal, etc. Please plan ahead and book courts even if opponent not yet known. CAPTAINS TO ARRANGE DATE AND KEEP ME INFORMED VIA EMAIL.
- Marking: decided by club captains but away teams can ellect to mark 2 out of the 5 matches.
- All first round matches to be completed by end February.
- The semi-finals will need to be played by 9th April.
- The final will be played at Truro Squash Club by end April/early May (date TBD – see suggestion below).
The draw is as follows:

Just an idea:
As we have three good courts at Truro….
Are there any ladies’ teams out there who would be interested in playing on the date of the final? Falmouth? Truro? Anyone else? Or could we stage a racketball match between two clubs – Shuv???? Or a Juniors play-off of some description – think of the atmosphere it would create!!! It would be good to think of the final becoming a kind of end of season festival!!!! Could be the start of something BIG! Suggestions please……
Winners and Runners-Up trophies provided by county; Cup to be engraved by winning team.
Hoping you have good games!
RSVP – so I know you have received this email – text if easier!
